What was to follow would force a global reaction closing international borders, the lockdown of entire cities, the breaking of international supply chains, the curtailing of all unnecessary travel and the closing of all non-essential businesses, including on campus learning at Universities. Societies across the globe had been ‘interrupted’.
As devasting as the pandemic has been, it has presented us with the opportunity to critically examine our practices and systems. The projects represented in GradEx 106 address many of the issues that will reshape our institutions, our communities our cities and ourselves. As evidenced in the following thesis projects, the discipline of Environmental Design is strategically positioned to critically evaluate our present and to design us into a sustainable and liveable future.
